First spaniel trial of the 2025/26 season
Yesterday we held our first spaniel trial of the 2025/26 season
We got the start of our trialling off this year with our Open AV Sringer Spaniel (except cocker) Trial at the Caerhays Estate in Cornwall
What a lovely day that really showed how beautiful the estate is, a huge thanks go to owners Mr and Mrs Williams and Jimmy Andrews the head keeper for once again allowing us to come to the estate and allowing us to use their wonderful estate to hold our trial.
To Simon Trudgie for organising the team of guns for us, thank you guns. To Trevor known by many on the estate for standing in to present the awards to the competitors.
To the judges Nick Gregory and Margaret Cox for giving up their time and judging all the dogs for us, with competitors completing their first round in woods, then after a short break, 14 dogs did their second run in cover crop.
My team of helpers who without I would not be able to do my job, with special thanks to Jo Rouse.
To skinners for once again supporting the club and supplying us with certificates and food vouchers.
Last but not least to the competitors for entering and supporting the club and showing us their dogs.
Well done to Jim Andrew for being the winner of our first raffle draw this year and winning the Steve Jones stick.

Novice AV spaniel trial at Upton Pyne
Today we held our Novice AV spaniel trial at Upton Pyne.
Our thanks go to Paul Bowyer for allowing us to use his ground and for the plentiful supply of birds. To the guns for their excellent shooting.
Our two judges today were Will Clulee and Matt Warren, a huge thanks for testing the dogs and giving us your time, to my team of helpers without whom I would never be able to manage and especially to Jo.
To skinners for their continued support for which we are grateful as always - thank you. Last but not least to all the people that have taken the time and entered our trial and supported the club.
Well done to Andy Faulkner for winning the stick raffle, this one was a woodcock.

Last trial of the season complete
Today we held our last trial of the season it was the open qualifier cocker stake.
It was held at Woodbury shoot in Exeter. Thank you to the keeper Ging and his team of helpers for a great supply of birds in some proper woodland with a variety of cover that tested the dogs.
Thanks to the team of guns for some excellent shooting.
Our judges Aled Jones and Jud Lascelles for giving all of the competitors their time and judging their dogs in some pretty wet conditions.
To my team of helpers, who always are there to help me no matter what the weather and make my life much easier.
To skinners for their continued support at our events - thank you
Last but not least to the competitors for supporting the club and entering the trial.
I know the weather wasn’t the best, but everybody was in good spirits even though we all got soaked.
