According to the demands of the membership, the club holds training seminars and/or classes for both retrievers and spaniels. This year there will be training classes from the end of April to early September. The trainers are catering for novice to advanced dogs and the classes are limited to members only. So if you want to come join up now.
For retrievers this year there is a bold new venture, the Mock Field Trial day, to be held on Saturday 18 June 2011 and is a must for all who trial, are about to trial or anybody who is just wondering what happens at a trial. Whilst the competing dogs will be invited there are plenty of opportunities for you to take the other essential roles for the day. For spaniels there will be a re-run of the highly successful and very popular Spaniel Training Day which will be on Sunday 10 April 2011.
Every year the clubs is asked to provide demonstrations of gundog work at several of the major events in the county such as The Royal Cornwall Show, Pencarrow and Stithians Cornish Country Fairs. The club usually has a stand as well at each show where you can buy training equipment, chat to club members and even join the club!
Werrington Park Country Fair is held near Launceston every two years and the CFTS hosts an Interclub retriever test for all the local clubs. The last event held in 2010 was won again by the Cornwall with top honours going to Sam Rowe's Fernshot Optimist of Driftaway. Plans for the 2012 event are well under way, as indeed are our plans to celebrate our 25th Anniversary in 2010
The club also participates in several other events hosted by local clubs and have been very successful in previous years. At the annual inviation spaniel test held at Highclere Castle, hosted by the the Kintbury Club, the Cornwall team has won several times and this year was won again - well done Margaret and Alice!
The North Devon Working Gundog Club also held their 25th Anniversary party this year and part of the celebrations was a mixed team working tests. Cornwall away swept the board with a team cvomprised of Mell Brooks, Clive Warrilow, Hilda Laity and Margaret Cox.
The club also sends a team to the BASC Retriever Team Working tests at Sherborne Castle each year run over the International course.
