Cornwall Field Trial Society improving the breeding and training of sound working gun dogs

CLUB ACTIVITIES

The clubs has open field trial status and holds four retriever and three spaniel trials each year (2008 results).   This coming season our President has invited us back to Trewithen and we will be holding an additional Novice AV Retrievers stake there in January.   These trials are on the very best estates in Cornwall and we are most fortunate to enjoy the generosity of our hosts and support of their keepers.   In the summer, on some of the same estates, we have novice and open working tests for both retrievers and spaniels (2009results).   Our test and trial secretaries work extremely hard to put these events on so please fully support them or you will loose them, it is up to YOU.

Training Seminar
Training Seminar participants

According to the demands of the membership, the club holds training seminars or classes for both retrievers and spaniels. For retrievers there is a bold new venture, the Field Trial Game, to be held at the end of June and is a must for all who trial, are about to trial or anybody who is just wondering what happens at a trial. This year it is training classes for spaniels which are being held in two locations every fortnight until the end of July. The trainers are catering for novice to advanced dogs and the classes are limited to members only. So if you want to come join up now.

Every year the clubs is asked to provide demonstrations of gundog work at several of the major events in the county such as The Cornwall County Show, Pencarrow and Stithians Country Fairs. The club usually has a stand as well at each show where you can buy training equipment, chat to club members and even join the club!

Werrington Park Country Fair is held near Launceston every two years and the CFTS hosts an Interclub retriever test for all the local clubs. The last event held in 2008 was won by the West Dartmoor Working Gundog Club with top honours going to Steve Ashby's Trioaks Macey from Tunnelwood. Plans for the 2010 event are well under way, as indeed are our plans to celebrate our 25th Anniversary in 2010

Werrington judging

The club also participates in several other events hosted by local clubs and have been very successful, in previous years, at an inviation spaniel test held at Highclere Castle hosted by the the Kintbury Club. The team of Margaret Cox, Alicce Wise and Hilda Laity have won again this year, for the third time running - well done girls!
Both Retriever and Spaniel teams go to the BASC Working tests at Sherborne Castle each year run over the International course.
